10th Standard. That was when I got my first computer. A PC actually. But the thing was, I didn’t know there were any other “types” of computer then.
Back then Windows was the only OS I had heard of. I’m sure people thought that if somebody, somewhere in the entire world, had a computer it obviously had Windows in it. I mean, come on. What else could there be in a computer if not Windows !
Naturally, by the time I planned to join engineering, I knew there was this “difficult”, “rare” OS called Linux. I swear I hadn’t even heard of something called Mac.ย And for me, at that point in time, Apple was just a fruit.
On the contrary, today, my connection with my friends and relatives which normally is through a phone; my music time, which involves listening to songs on a mp3 player; my computer which is used to browse the internet, watch movies, play games etc; is by a single brand.ย Apple.
Funny, how just one company can have such a big influence on you and how it gets embedded itself into your pretty little life.
If you think about it, its quite shocking how one single company can control your life so much. But the flip side about it is that, it makes you actually enjoy the time spent on doing what you’re doing.
I have owned a PC, 3 Nokia phones, 1 Samsung phone, 2 Mp3 players before but I was not attached to even one of them as much as I am attached to Apple products right now. That is the basic difference between the products of Apple and rest of the other guys.
If a product has the features, outlook, that not only impresses the user but which makes the user fond of it and gets attached to it, you’ve found yourself success and a loyal follower.
This was a mantra, formulated by one of the greatest pioneers, the world has ever seen.
Steve Jobs!
Many regard him as an arrogant, self obsessed, nasty, unfriendly dictator the IT industry has ever seen.
Be as it may, his career, his success and his achievements speak for itself. Turning around a company, which kicked him out earlier for mismanagement, which was almost bankrupt, and bringing it to the position it has gained today, eclipsing Exxon Mobil for a brief period to become the World’s No 1 most valuable company,(currently No 2) is no joke at all.
And all of this, in spite of suffering from cancer and undergoing a liver transplant.
Its the dedication, the determination and the courage of this man that has to be admired.
Today is the day Steve Jobs resigned from his CEO post at Apple.
No doubt that the success of Apple is because of all the thousands of employees working hard at Apple, but the success/failure of a company is always attributed to its CEO.
Its quite a sad day, today for all the Apple fans that this visionary has stepped down from the throne of the IT industry.
Yet, wishing him a good luck, health and happiness and wishing that Apple still retains the golden crown of the industry in the future, after the era of Steve Jobs !
